In this moving kapitel, Dovid HaMelech cries out to Hashem from a place of deep physical and spiritual pain, begging that his teshuvah be accepted with mercy rather than through harsh chassadim and suffering. He weeps through the nights, pouring out his heart until his eyes grow weak from grief, pleading for a refuah for his aching body and neshama. In the end, Dovid HaMelech is comforted with the emunah that Hashem has heard his tears and tefillos, and that all his enemies will ultimately retreat in shame.
לַמְנַצֵּחַ בִּנְגִינוֹת עַל־הַשְּׁמִינִית מִזְמוֹר לְדָוִד׃
יְהוָה אַל־בְּאַפְּךָ תוֹכִיחֵנִי וְאַל־בַּחֲמָתְךָ תְיַסְּרֵנִי׃
חָנֵּנִי יְהוָה כִּי אֻמְלַל אָנִי רְפָאֵנִי יְהוָה כִּי נִבְהֲלוּ עֲצָמָי׃

יָגַעְתִּי בְּאַנְחָתִי אַשְׂחֶה בְכָל־לַיְלָה מִטָּתִי בְּדִמְעָתִי עַרְשִׂי אַמְסֶה׃
עָשְׁשָׁה מִכַּעַס עֵינִי עָתְקָה בְּכָל־צוֹרְרָי׃
