In this beautiful Shir HaMa'alot, Dovid HaMelech expresses his immense joy when people would invite him to go up to the Beis Hashem. He sings the praises of Yerushalayim, describing it as a city that unites all of Klal Yisrael together as they ascend for the Aliyah L'Regel to give thanks to Hashem and seek justice at the thrones of the House of Dovid. The kapitel concludes with a heartfelt tefillah for the peace, tranquility, and goodness of Yerushalayim for the sake of our brethren and the Beis Hashem.
שִׁיר הַמַּעֲלוֹת לְדָוִד שָׂמַחְתִּי בְּאֹמְרִים לִי בֵּית יְהוָה נֵלֵךְ׃
עֹמְדוֹת הָיוּ רַגְלֵינוּ בִּשְׁעָרַיִךְ יְרוּשָׁלִָם׃
יְרוּשָׁלִַם הַבְּנוּיָה כְּעִיר שֶׁחֻבְּרָה־לָּהּ יַחְדָּו׃
